Labour Force Development

Program and Mandate
The Big River 118 Labour Force Development operates under the terms and conditions of both the Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy (AHRDS) Agreement and Big River 118 labour market goals and objectives.



ASETS

ASETS is designed to help Aboriginal people prepare for, find, and keep high-demand jobs now and in the long term. All Aboriginal people regardless of the status or location, may access its programs and services. These include: job-finding skills and training, programs for youth, programs for urban and Aboriginal people with disabilities, and access to child care.

The mandate is to provide programs and services to assist First Nations individuals. The program is specifically designed to assist Aboriginal people through training and employment development to access labour market opportunities and become contributing members to the labour force.

Please Note: ASETS is the successor program to the Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy, which expired on March 2010.

Program Criteria including Age Group served

Programs and services are available to First Nations individuals who are 18 years or older, unemployed or underemployed with a valid Treaty Card & SIN Card

Specific Services Available
Employment Programs Work experience partnerships; Job Placement Assistance; Self Employment Assistance; Summer Student Employment Partnership; Transition to Employment Partnerships; Apprenticeship Partnerships; and Mobility Assistance.
Skills Training Programs Specific Career Training; Skill Improvement of Employees; Apprenticeship Training; Specific Career Orientation; Pre Employment Preparation; Basic Academic Preparation; and Career Academic Preparation.
Disabilities Programs Programs that will provide assistance to persons who self-identify as having a physical, mental, or learning disabilities to obtain and retain employment.
Employment & Career Counselling Programs and Services are available to First Nations individuals who are 18 years or older and are either underemployed or unemployed. Please contact the Independent Big River First Nation Labour Force Development for the detailed eligibility criteria for the above programs and services.
