Big River First Nation in Partnership with U of S Teacher Education Program

ITEP logoThe Big River First Nation Teacher Education Program is a partnership between the Big River First Nation through the University of Saskatchewan’s Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP) and is funded through Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. The purpose of the partnership was to provide an off-campus Bachelor of Education program for the First Nation Bands under the Agency Chiefs Tribal Council; Big River First Nation, Witchekan Lake, Pelican Lake, and Atahkahkoop First Nation.

ITEP Graduation 2009

The first group of students to attend the BRFN Teacher Education Program started the program in 2005, and four years later, 17 students graduated on May 22, 2009 with their Bachelor of Education Degrees. Post Secondary Student Support

The Post Secondary Student Support Program provides funding for Big River First Nation band membership attending Post Secondary Institutions. Please keep in mind that this is funding for post secondary sponsorship only, not for upgrading or GED prep. The minimum length of sponsorship cannot be less than eight months.

Only completed applications received within the deadline dates will be considered for the current intake; those received late will be considered early applications for the next intake.

Applying for Post Secondary Education Funding
For your application to be considered complete, the following must accompany your application:

  • Letter of acceptance
  • Treaty/status card - copied front & back
  • Your letter of intent (educational plan)
  • Hospitalization cards of children - copied front
  • Program information: tuition & book cost, duration, etc.
  • Copy of high school transcripts
  • Resume
  • Dependant spouse letter
  • Tracking Sheet of classes

Failure to submit documentation by deadline dates will result in delays and/or disqualification from funding

Note:  Application Deadline Dates: 
SEPTEMBER INTAKE - JUNE 30TH
JANUARY INTAKE - OCTOBER 31ST
